We were very fortunate to catch the Ventriloquism performance. It was very imaginative and entertaining...

WHAT IS VENTRILOQUISM AND PUPPETRY ALL ABOUT?

Ventriloquism (or "vent") is a form of puppetry where the puppeteer makes the puppet talk (live), but the ventriloquist doesn't appear to move his or her mouth. In most forms of ventriloquism, both the ventriloquist and the puppet share the stage as characters.

In puppetry the idea is that you are focusing on the puppet and not the puppeteer. In most cases, the puppeteers are not seen, and do not have their own characterization. Currently, David owns several characters; his most popular, Tyler the turtle; a parrot named Maxwell Eugene; and a large bear named Ted. There are many types of shows to choose from, ranging from a 10 minute ventriloquism show for kids to a half hour (or more) for adults.

VENTRILOQUISM 101

For the past three years, I've been teaching a beginner's ventriloquism class.

I've finally decided to offer my ventriloquism class to the public. In the past, this class has focused on characterization, technical ability (how to speak without moving the lips), lip syncing, script writing, comedy, and basic history of the art.

The classes can range from a one-time, one hour class, to a class that can meet several times during the month. The class can be easily adjusted for length.

The class is also educational. It not only focuses on aspects of theater and entertainment, but it also focuses on a large list of suggested reading material, and promotes writing skills (scripting). Depending on the level of practice, it can also help on vocal intonation and speaking skills. It also will excersize facial muscles, hand and arm strength, and breathing.

It also can help hand eye coordination, timing and self esteem.
